Work On New Hospital For Sri Aman To Start Early Next Year

SRI AMAN, Aug 8 (Bernama) -- The Sri Aman Hospital built during the James Brooke administration of Sarawak will finally be replaced by a new hospital with latest medical facilities and specialists on par with Sarawak General Hospital (SGH), said Natural Resources and Environment Minister Datuk Dougles Uggah Embas.

Speaking after a briefing on the project here today he said the new facility costing RM200 million will be on a 51-acre site, 2.5 km from the old hospital and work is expected to start early next year.

Douglas is the minister responsible for monitoring the 10th Malaysia Plan (10th MP) project which was announced by the Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister during their earlier meet the people sessions in Sarawak.

The Health Ministry has also agreed to place two specialists in Sri Aman starting today, he added.

Sarawak Health director Dr Zulkifli Jantan said currently patients had to be referred to SGH as the specialists came to Sri Aman only once a month.

The government had earlier announced two additional hospitals for Sarawak under the 10th MP, located in Petra Jaya and Lawas.
